July 2010 Transition Update: Thanks to all for being so patient. As you’ve guessed (or predicted), the website renovation is going a bit slower than we would have liked. There’s actually quite a bit of work done, but it’s mainly ‘behind the scenes’, so expect a major and sudden improvement…right when you least suspect it!
The main element that we hadn’t really counted on was the unexpected amount of unrelated additional work that has come our way (not least of which was a mortgage refinancing dilemma that, we’re glad to say, has turned out very well for us — though it did seem like it was heading in the other direction for a while!). As well as a crisis with my brother that has turned out rather well.
My brother is an alcoholic. (I should say WAS an alcoholic) Has been ever since Iraq when he came home minus a leg. As a veteran he has been in rehab, AA, and all sorts of counseling and nothing seemed to last until his wife learned about a drug to treat alcohol substance abuse called baclofen and a website, LifeBac that has a program that looked very promising. The short story of this exhausting long story is that his new program uses pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. The medication, Baclofen, removes or strongly suppresses cravings for alcohol in 92% of people. Thank goodness he was in that 92%. Initial clinical trials show that Baclofen has a 65% success rate for treatment-resistant alcoholics , allowing them to return to low- or medium-risk drinking. That’s right, this treatment doesn’t require abstinence although many people do stop all drinking. Baclofen doesn’t affect the taste of alcohol or the pleasure of drinking. It simply removes the addictive components that lead to overindulgence and allows a person to drink in moderation, if they so choose to. Doctors in Europe prescribe baclofen as the primary treatment for people who drink excessively. Baclofen treatment does require titration (slow dose increase) until a person’s cravings are completely removed or controlled. As a family we supported my father through the initial phases until side effects from the drug and his cravings started to subside. It really looks like this time that he is on his way to recovery where he is in control. Meanwhile….
Still, we’ve managed to nearly complete the major part of our research that was fun, profitable, but a wee bit distracting! We look forward to one of the first major sections of the new website which discuss up and coming new products that we feel are exceptional in one way or another.
As always, thanks for your continued interest and patience, and especially for all of the relevant and helpful comments that have been posted so far!
Thank you for stopping by the all-new Openvision.tv!
Just to give you a peek into where we are headed we are researching beauty/fashion products in all their iterations. Of course we had to sample a few from various e-commerce sites. Got to keep up our energy and enthusiasm for more updates to come! In a related vein, we also are exploring the world of hair alternatives for fashion choices as well as for people who have hair loss due to medical reasons. We were astounded by the variety of styles in both synthetic and human hair wigs. Several of our co workers have ordered Gabor Wigs, along with other wig manufacturers’ products. We feel the greatest need for hair alternative choices are for folks suffering from hair loss and will emphasis that side of the wig business.
